2009 Nominations & Elections

The GW Black Alumni Association held elections for the new executive board in February 2009 to move the association in line with the new policies and procedures for Alumni Clubs & Groups.

Elections closed on February 20. Thank you for voting!

The following positions were open:

Nominees:

  1. Chair
    1. Beverly A. Bogerty, GWSB MTA '00 – Beverly Bogerty is a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) with over 10 years of experience in the events and meetings industry. She graduated from The George Washington University School of Business in the year 2000 with a Masters Degree in Tourism Administration, concentrating in Event Management. She also holds a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.

      Beverly is the President and co-owner of Occasions, Inc., a full-service event & meeting management company and tour operator specializing in high-level corporate meetings, incentives and special events and customized group tours & excursions. In this role, Beverly applies her extensive event planning experience coupled with her marketing savvy to create customized events for clients such as Borland Software, HP, Washington Mutual, the Embassy of Iraq, and Enterprise Rent A Car.

      Prior to launching Occasions, Inc., Beverly enjoyed a very successful career as a corporate event planner having planned large corporate events for companies such as Geneva Technologies, Convergys, Fairfax County Virginia Government, Celebrate Fairfax, Inc., Capitol Records, and Blue Cross of California.
  2. Co-Chair
    1. Curtis Midkiff, GSPM MA '98 – Curtis Midkiff is a 1998 graduate of the Graduate School of Political Management at GW. He is excited about the opportunity to assist in leading this organization and working towards maximizing its potential as an avenue for networking as well as recruitment of students to the school. He currently serves as a marketing consultant in the areas of new media and government relations and also hosts events for urban professionals via the JCM Entertaiment brand. As Co-Chair of the GWBAA, he plans to work diligently with the Executive Board to achieve the following goals: increasing membership to the organization, providing social and professional opportunities to our membership, encouraging active participation in the recruitment and support of current students, and taking a prominent role in the GW community.
    2. Christina Vickers, CCAS BA '06  – Christina Vickers was born and raised in Queens, NY to parents of Jamaican descent. George Washington University brought her to the Washington, DC Metro area where she still resides. As an undergraduate of GWU, she was very involved in campus activities, including her role as VP of the Black Student Union. She currently attends Howard University and will complete her Masters Degree in Secondary Education in the Spring of 2009. Since graduation from GW, she has worked diligently with at-risk youths of color in local public schools. This experience has changed her life in monumental ways and allows her to pursue her career in Educational Research and Policy. Christina knows the benefits and synergy that results from teamwork and collaboration. She is a capable, friendly, task-master that seeks results and progress towards the big picture goals of the GWU Black Alumni Association.
  3. Membership Chair
    1. Titi Williams-Davies, GWSB BBA '07, MBA '09 – Titi Williams-Davies has been an active member of the GW community for the past six years.  After recieving her Bachelor of Business Administration, she was selected to be a Presidential Administrative Fellow at the University and will graduate with her Master of Business Administration this May. During this time, she has been able to work amongst Black students and alumni in several aspects of the university (i.e. social groups, professional organizations, greek life, international organizations, etc).  She currently sits on the GW African American Alumni Advisory Board and is committed to working to strengthen the GW Black alumni community as it continues to grow and span the globe.  By serving as membership chair she hopes to help re-engage alumni and help them create strong ties to their alma mater.

  4. Publicity/Marketing Chair
    1. Laetitia Lukanda, SEAS BS '08 – Laetitia Lukanda graduated from the George Washington University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering.  She currently works in DC as a NAVY contractor.  Laetitia has been a member of GWBAA since 2007.  She previously served as the Director of Marketing for the organization

    3. James Walker, CCAS BA '07 – James S. Walker is an online communications professional at a global PR agency in Washington, DC. He graduated from the George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and a minor in History in May of 2007. During his time at GW, James served as a member of Colonial Cabinet 2005, founded Influence PR, GW's Premier Student Public Relations Group in 2006, and served as President of GW's NAACP (2006-2007). Now settled in the professional world, James is looking to reconnect with the GW community.

  1. Liaison to GW Student Services
    1. Kelly Leon, CCAS BA '08, MA '10 – Kelly S. Leon, of Los Angeles, Calif., earned a bachelor's degree in English (BA '08) and is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society. As an undergraduate Leon served as vice president of the Racially and Ethnically Mixed Student Association, served on the 2006 Colonial Cabinet, worked as a living and learning community coordinator for the George Washington Williams House and was co-leader of the 2007 Colonial Cabinet. Off campus, Leon worked as both a communications and public relations intern and was a writer for Paraplegic News Magazine. She is currently a Presidential Administrative Fellow at GW and is placed in the Office of President where she serves as Student Liaison to Dr. Steven Knapp. Leon is pursuing a Master of Arts in organizational management at GW.
